CODE OF
Practice

The shellfish cultivation Code of Practice has been developed by the industry to inform both well established and developing operations.

Drawing on the practical experience of shellfish growers who have operated for decades within the unique Scottish coastal environment, the Code of Practice exemplifies the highly sustainable nature of molluscan shellfish cultivation.

Each production site will exhibit specific environmental characteristics influencing the growth of the stocks. Seasonal influences will also be to the fore, and these combine along with the husbandry deployed, to deliver the high-quality seafood typified from Scottish producers.

The Code of Practice sets out some general principles which inform the ideology and operations of ASSG member businesses. In addition, there is specific reference to the production of mussels (Mytilus spp.) utilising long-line systems and oysters cultivated on the foreshore.
